Cafes Bayside: Limoncello, Sandringham takes title in community vote

Baysiders love this Sandringham cafe so much they visit up to three times daily. See what keeps them coming back.

Limoncello’s outdoor dining was a hit post COVID.

You won’t find any five minute fads at Limoncello Sandringham.

And that’s just how the locals like it.

The cafe, which has just been named Bayside’s best as part of the Delicious Local campaign, has been serving the same crowd their favourite dishes for 20 years.

“Consistency is our thing,” manager Chloe Vassella said.

“We don’t jump on board the latest trends or fast, we stick with what people know and love.”

The formula works.

Many customers have been visiting up to three times a day for years.

“We know everyone and they know us,” Ms Vassella said.

“It’s a really homey atmosphere.”

The Limoncello BLT, rosti and pasta specials were always a hit with the regulars, she said.

Limoncello likes to end the week with burgers and beers.

“Our Friday night beers and burgers are also popular.”

The beachside cafe uses coffee supplied by Richmond based Gravity.

It favours the Zenith blend which was described as a medium roast with excellent complexity and a smooth aftertaste that works well in both espresso and milk coffees.

Delicious Local campaign ambassador Matt Preston said the search for best cafe was just the start of a push to help drive a food-led rebound from the effects of COVID.

“It’s clear from the vast number of nominations and votes we saw come in that local communities are rallying around their favourite eateries; supporting those food businesses who have done it tough over the past 12 months. That is exactly what we set out to achieve.”
