Police have swooped on a man in a popular Brighton street after bystanders alleged he was walking down the middle of the road telling people he would kill them.

A man has been arrested in a popular Brighton street after allegedly telling bystanders he would kill them all.

People who witnessed the wild scenes told the Leader the man was walking down the middle of Church St in Brighton just before 11am telling them he would kill each person.

“He was threatening to kill all of us,” one bystander said.

Another said the man had been yelling abuse at everyone.

“The guy was walking down the middle of the street yelling and abusing everyone,” they said.

“Four police units arrived and they quickly had him in the back of the divvy van.”

It’s understood the incident happened near popular cafes, such as The Dendy Deli, and Coles.

Victoria Police have been contacted for comment.
