POLICE are calling for help after brazen vandalism on a busy Frankston train.

Police allege vandals interfered with the signal mechanism on a city-bound train to stop it between Seaford and Carrum on August 28 at about 6.30am.

Commuters allegedly saw three people spray-painting large murals and tags over the last two carriages of the train.

Frankston Police Constable David Jackson said they had identified two of the three offenders, but were searching for a witness, who was reportedly taping the incident on his phone, to assist with their inquiries.

“We had one witness provide us with a photo and we are looking for another who took video,’’ he said.

The vandal’s tagged SEKA, OFGS and ALUE on the Metro train.

A large graffiti spree was also reported on September 7 at various locations in Carrum Downs and Langwarrin, including walls facing Peninsula Link freeway.

Carrum Downs police recently launched a graffiti taskforce called Operation Canned and are working with Frankston Council and the Frankston Police CREST team, but Const Jackson said they needed more public input.

“The public deserve to be able to live their daily lives without having to see this destruction of property,’’ Const Jackson said.

“With the public’s help we can continue our success in reducing the impact of graffiti in our local area.’’

From January to September this year, 38 graffiti offenders had been processed, with the damage costing the council $65,000 in clean-ups.

Police have been engaging schools to help identify recidivist offenders, and are asking the public to provide information on graffiti vandalism to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at crimestop pers.com.au.
