Bayside Confidential: Bec Judd, The Block, Dermott Brereton news

It’s no secret that hit TV show The Block has made Brighton its home for 2020, but how have the well-heeled adjusted to the “monstrosity” going up in their ‘hood? Plus, Bec Judd, Dermott Brereton and more.

Celebrations were scarce when it came to Australia Day, with Baysiders more likely to be heard screaming “change the date”.

We did notice however that one house was particularly Aussie with a fence full of thongs! Kudos to that family’s inner “Oz”.

Baysiders were lining up to dance with the piano man, and Jane and Steve Tsimos, known for Tsimos Commercial, which has serviced Bayside for 33 years.

They were spotted sitting front and centre at Elton John on the Green.

Faux Elton put on a show at the Palms Crown to sellout crowds, and Rippon Lea barefoot cinema opened recently with Rocketman, starring Golden Globe award winner Taron Edgerton.

It was more like Fifty Shades of Brown for Bec Judd, who, like many Baysiders, woke up to a dirty pool after the recent dust storm.

With the flick of an Instagram story, #poolgate was on and the ironically named ABC journo Jen Browning was all over it, tweeting disapproval at Bec’s #firstworldproblems.

Brighton Rotary’s Great Aussie Day Swim was officially started by super swim star John van Wisse at Brighton Baths.

It was party all day and night at Drew Bellmaine’s Riva Aussie Day rave, led by Bayside DJ power couple Piero and Chloe.

But it was more Russian roulette than the Melbourne shuffle due in part to the high rates of dog ownership.

Luckily Bayside has resident dog expert, Channel 10 Pooches at Play host and Australia’s No. 1 doggie expert Lara Shannon.

We hear Lara also has a book in the works set to take her global.

As we march our darlings back to school (hallelujah) and return to “normal” programming, our favourite local I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here contestant Dermott Brereton raised the Valentine’s Day bar.

Dermie knows the way to a woman’s heart is through her feet — not with a killer pair of heels but an awesome pair of work boots.

Dermie gifted his striking partner Julie May a pair of steel caps.

After seeing Derm’s intellectual side on Celebrity we think it might be game, set and match, with Julie worthy of a follow on Instagram @50_and_me_and_you! #goldstarfromthegossipgirls

Onto building works, there’s always something going on — and up!

If you’re wondering what the monstrosity that has appeared on New St is, think The Block 2020.

We think it looks like it fell off the back of a truck and wonder if we might see some Wicked Witch legs poking out from underneath.

Given the proximity to a high-profile sporting family it could be blowing a gale before we know it.

Let’s hope housing prices benefit from this inconvenience.

IS GINA LIANO RETURNING TO RHOM?

Scott Cam won’t need to worry, given he rides a huge motorbike.

On The Block, Shaynna Blaze is single and ready to mingle and we plan on shouting her a bubbly at the Cougar Moon.

Cieran Kayes’ New Bay Hotel will no doubt be a local spot for the Blockheads.
