A failed businessman once dubbed Melbourne’s ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ has been committed to the County Court after pleading guilty to a charge of giving false testimony.

Andrew Sackl, 35, of Toorak, appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday via an audio visual link in a sixth attempt to progress his matter to a hearing to determine if it should go to trial.

Three charges — giving false testimony, fabricating evidence and attempting to pervert the course of justice — were withdrawn at the start of his committal hearing on Friday.

Sackl pleaded guilty to a single charge of giving false testimony and Magistrate Suzanne Cameron committed him to the County Court.

He’ll appear in the County Court on March 20, 2025 for plea.

Ms Cameron extended his bail with conditions, including that he not leave Australia and must not interfere with witnesses.

“There was some real concern about flight overseas. He’s got no passport. If he doesn’t turn up for court, he’s not getting very far. It’s an everyday risk and there are conditions there to mitigate that which I think are appropriate,” she said.

She urged him to have his “house in order” between now and his appearance in the County Court.

In July, a magistrate blasted Mr Sackl for wasting the court’s time after he sought another adjournment because of his inability to pay for a legal defence.

He told the court he was unemployed and struggling to find the money to pay Wyndham Partners to continue to act on his behalf. Mr Sackl was represented by Sam Tovey on Friday.
