A 55-year-old Elwood man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly bashed and stabbed a woman during a heated dispute over a noisy washing machine
Stonnington detective Senior Constable Khuong Tran said the 65-year-old alleged victim was rushed to hospital following the Australia Day incident.
The argument between the pair was sparked after the woman tried to use a washing machine in the housing estate’s shared laundry and the man became enraged by the noise, Sen-Constable Tran said.
Neighbours called police after hearing the woman’s screams about 7.15pm, he said, and when emergency services arrived at the gory scene they found the discarded knife and the woman bleeding from horrific injuries.
The woman allegedly suffered stab wounds to her abdomen, liver and cuts to her arm, hands and face as well as bruising to her face and back, Sen Constable Tran said.
Police have charged the man with attempted murder, intentionally cause injury and recklessly cause injury, Sen-Constable Tran said.

“When police arrived a witness has taken him out to the driveway where he surrendered,” Sen-Constable Tran said.
“The knife broke during the assault but the weapon was located at the address … If I use the laundry I wouldn’t expect to be stabbed.”
Sen-Constable Tran said the woman was recovering in hospital
month from her injuries.
The man remains in police custody and will face court in April.
