Woman blames relationship breakdown for stealing Botox from Chadstone shopping centre

A heartbroken woman who lied about her identity to steal a face-full of Botox from a beauty clinic at Chadstone shopping centre has blamed her breakup for the five-finger discount.

A heartbroken woman learnt the true cost of beauty after she faked her identity to steal almost $300 worth of Botox from a Chadstone shopping centre clinic.

The 24-year-old was slapped with a $500 fine after using a fake name and address to steal the face-full of Botox from Australian Skin Clinics last year.

The Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court heard Ilke Talaz of Cheltenham was struggling to come to grips with the end of a seven-month long relationship when, feeling in need of a little pampering, she used a false name and address to book herself an appointment at the Australian Skin Clinics store at Chadstone last May.

But Victoria Police prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Adrian Hale said when the treatment was done and the time came to pay, Talaz told the store attendant she was unable to log into her online Zip Pay account and she would need to dash out quickly to withdraw cash.

The shop attendant helpfully provided directions to the nearest ATM, and Talaz waltzed out of the store with a face full of Botox, the court heard.

After repeated failed attempts to call Talaz on her mobile phone, the store manager was forced to hand over treatment photos to Malvern police in the hope that they could use them to track down the woman.

Talaz made full admissions to obtaining property by deception at the court last week, and her defence lawyer asked Magistrate Rodney Crisp to take into account her young age and early guilty plea.

She said Talaz was struggling with low self-esteem and anxiety at the time, which led to her offending.

She also said her client had since flagged her interest in paying the store back the $276 treatment cost, but police advised her not to bother.

Mr Crisp fined and convicted Talaz and he also ordered her to pay the outstanding treatment cost to Australian Skin Clinics.
