AN unexpected sunshower doused a street in Kew after a water main burst, sending a stream of water and debris reportedly 25m into the air.
MFB, police and Yarra Valley Water crews attended Edgevale Rd after witnesses reported the incident with rocks and pieces of the road also flying overhead around 3.20pm.
The force of the water punched a large hole in the road.
Yarra Valley Water spokeswoman Mandy Hay said traffic management crews were on en route to turn the water off and repair the damage but home supplies had not yet been affected.
“Sometimes secondary supply can be diverted to customers,” she said.
“With the warmer weather there can be shifts in the soil which can cause pipes to crack, but until we get in there we won’t know for sure.”
