Two overdoses on Chapel St on Australia Day have prompted police to renew an urgent call for revellers to steer clear of drugs.
A 28-year-old man is lucky to be alive after a suspected drug overdose on Chapel St, Prahran, about 7pm on January 26, while another man aged in his 30s was rushed to hospital following a suspected overdose in Chapel St, St Kilda, just hours earlier.

Prahran Police Acting Senior Sergeant Martin McLean, who responded to the overdose in Prahran, said the man became aggressive when police and paramedics attempted to help.
Witnesses called the police after seeing the man act erratically, and the Leader witnessed the man sweating profusely and stamping his feet before later collapsing on the ground outside the Three Monkeys.
“I know there were a couple of similar incidents in the division over Australia Day night,” Acting Sen Sgt McLean said.
“He was extremely aggressive and violent, you can’t pacify them.
“Members of the public were concerned about his erratic behaviour because he was running out into traffic.”
Acting Sen Sgt McLean said he believed the man may have ingested the toxic drug gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB), also nicknamed GBH — or grievous bodily harm.
He said it was incomprehensible why people would risk their life by taking illegal drugs, and he urged partygoers to think twice before taking them.
“Why would you put something in your system when you don’t know where it’s come from,” he said.
Ambulance Victoria spokesman Simon Thomson said people should call triple-0 immediately if they suspected someone was having an overdose.
“The effects of illicit drugs can be variable and the consequences in some circumstances can be life threatening,” he said.
“Our paramedics regularly see both the direct and indirect impacts of drug use in communities.”
