A cosy wine bar and bottle shop which has also branched out into on-street dining has been voted the best in Stonnington.

Toorak Cellars has been crowned Stonnington’s best bar from a field of four other nominees, as voted by Leader readers.

The Beatty Ave venue triumphed over Chapel St’s Jan Doe Bar and Punk Carla, Malvern East’s Essie Wine Bar and South Yarra’s Leonards House of Love.

The venue, owned by Lyndon Kubis, opened in 2010 and is located not far from Toorak railway station.

It boasts a rotating menu of 20 wines which can be enjoyed by the glass, or about 400 different varieties by the bottle, which can be enjoyed at the venue or by takeaway.

The venue’s bottle shop boasts craft beers and boutique spirits, and diners can also enjoy small share plates, snacks and charcuterie boards.

Toorak Cellars is decked out with wood decor, communal tables and a rear courtyard.

Earlier this year, the venue drew in new fans as part of Stonnington Council’s outdoor on-street dining program.

Mr Kubis said he and the venue were “stoked” with the support they received from the community.

“We’ve always treated this place as a community centre, it’s as much theirs as it is ours,” he said.

“A lot of people have been regular customers of ours for a long time now, sometimes there’s three generations of a family catching up together at one time.”

Mr Kubis said the venue would continue to focus on offering wines from small producers, with a focus on organic varieties.

He also hoped the venue would be able to offer its on-street dining again next summer.

“It’s not about drinking less, but better with us,” he said.
