A flash boutique apartment complex in one of Melbourne’s poshest suburbs has beaten COVID-19 construction woes and is now set to be finished ahead of schedule.

The four-storey Heyington complex on Heyington Place, Toorak, is valued at $55 million and is set to be finished by the end of 2021.

It will boast 10 generous three-bedroom apartments and two penthouses, some with leafy backyards and pools, and each resident will have two or three underground parking spaces.

The apartments are selling for $2.9 million to $5.7 million, while the penthouses range from $5.8 million to $6 million.

Real estate agent Kay and Burton’s director of projects, Damon Krongold, said the complex was 50 per cent sold, with interest from buyers in Toorak, Camberwell, Malvern and Kew who were looking to downsize.

He said the complex offered unique “home-sized apartments” which had been in demand across the inner east and those wanting to get into the “luxury downsizer” market.

“It’s been a growing trend over the last five years, what we see generally is people in larger homes in Toorak, or those in neighbouring suburbs, want to come in and be closer to tree-lined streets, parklands and private schools,” he said.

“We’re finding more downsizers are looking for home-sized apartments which aren’t necessarily on the main roads, and this area provides that.”

Mr Krongold said the development was in a “very peaceful” area and each apartment would have plenty of natural light in tranquil surroundings away from the busy Toorak and Hawksburn shopping precincts.

David Morgan, of developer Sterling Global, said builders Visioneer had managed to progress construction to be one month ahead of schedule, despite restrictions during last year’s COVID-19 lockdown.

“Throughout COVID, Sterling Global were committed to press ahead with the construction schedule while adapting to changing restrictions as they occurred,” he said.

“Without a doubt, Heyington is a rare offering with a very limited number of crafted, exclusive and expansive house style residences.

“We are now seeing Heyington come to life and look forward to completion at the end of 2021.”
