UNIVERSITY Blues could possess one of the best one-two punches in the Victorian Amateur Football Association if it secures Hawthorn premiership on-baller Brad Sewell.

While the former Hawks midfielder’s availability would be dictated by media commitments, should he sign, former Blues’ best and fairest Ross Young has confirmed his return for 2015.

Young captained Richmond’s inaugural VFL team this year, showcasing his quality in the middle of the park and claiming the Tigers’ best and fairest award.

Uni Blues coach Quinton Gleeson said there was little doubt Young would be one of the recruits of the summer.

“He played an outstanding year of footy in the VAFA (in 2013),” Gleeson said.

“I think he still had a fair bit to offer in the VFL which he proved to everyone last year.”

Gleeson said the ball magnet had been quick to set the standard in pre-season training.

“He’s already flying around the track and setting standards for the guys to chase down,” he said.

“He’s got to be in the top-five recruits that the VAFA will see next year.

“Even if you’re recruiting AFL players, you’re probably not getting a guy that’s going to be as dedicated to his footy as he is.”

The Blues, who will return to Premier Division next year after winning the 2014 Premier B flag, have also secured former Morrish medallist George Cameron.

The ex-Geelong Falcons’ jet was one of four players to tie for the TAC Cup’s highest individual honour in 2013.

Gleeson confirmed the club had been in discussions with Sewell, but said any deal for the 200-game AFL veteran to play at University Oval was far from sealed.

“We’ve had a chat to Sewelly and I know him quite well,” he said.

“He’s clearly got to work out in his head, what he’s going to be doing next year and what his media commitments are going to be.”

Sewell appeared on Channel Seven this year during his final year at the Hawks.

Uni Blues will start 2015 with an away fixture against De La Salle, before unveiling its premiership flag at home in Round 2 when it tackles Beaumaris.
