ST MARY’S Salesian had an important win over Old Geelong in the last match of the Division 1 season.
In a preview of next week’s first semi-final, St Mary’s Salesian defeated Old Geelong, 17.7 (109) to 12.11 (83). It led from start to finish, with a dominant six to two goal first quarter setting the tone to the match.
Nick Baum starred, while Harry Angley and Nicholas Bussell also impressed in the win.
In the aftermath of last week’s drama-filled Division 1 clash (see page 10), Kew lost to Whitefriars Old Collegians, 14.15 (99) to 11.5 (71), in the final round of the season.
Kew will look to return to the winners’ circle this week when it takes on Ormond in the second semi-final.
In Premier, Old Scotch had a costly loss to University Blues.
Old Scotch lost 16.21 (117) to 10.6 (66) in a game that could cost them a place in the VAFA’s top flight next season.
In Premier B, St Kevins Old Boys continued their undefeated season with a thumping 128-point win over Caulfield Grammarians, 26.20 (176) to 7.6 (48).
Jordan Gysberts starred with five goals, while Jason Salopek also impressed.
In Premier C, Old Camberwell lost to Old Ivanhoe 14.18 (102) to 9.9 (63).
Old Camberwell will be fighting to avoid relegation in its match against Old Haileyburians this week.
In Division 3, Hawthorn secured a narrow victory over La Trobe University, 14.15 (99) to 13.15 (93).
Next week it will take on Aquinas Old Collegians in the second semi-final.
Swinburne University beat Powerhouse 16.14 (110) to 12.15 (87) in another Division 3 match.
In Division 4, Canterbury lost its first game for the season, in the very last round of the home and away season.
The Cobras went down to Westbourne Grammarians, 12.11 (83) to 11.2 (68), and will be looking to turn the tables on Westbourne in the second semi-final this week.
