FORMER Federal MP and social justice campaigner Phil Cleary will run for the Northern Metropolitan Region Upper House seat in this month’s state election.
“At the upcoming state election I will be a candidate for the Upper House Seat of Northern Metropolitan Region, which runs from the mighty Yarra, west to Moonee Ponds Creek and stretches north to Yuroke,” Mr Cleary today announced.
“I will be on the ballot paper under the Voice for the West banner,” he said.
Mr Cleary said the Voice for the West group of candidates — all founded in the Western suburbs — would campaign for a break from “the stranglehold and failings of the major parties.”
Mr Cleary announced he would campaign for a royal commission into family violence, a subject he has passionately campaigned for since the murder of his sister in 1987.
A former VFL player and coach, Mr Cleary said he would also campaign to build upon the social benefits that come from local sporting clubs.
