A vile thug whose heavy drug use made him feel like a “superhero” and a “ninja” subjected a woman to a horrifying eight-hour sexual attack during which she managed to film part of the ordeal.
Ofer Eshel was jailed for years in County Court on Friday on three charges of rape, two of causing injury recklessly and two of possession of a drug of dependence over the attack in St Kilda East in December 2021.
The 36-year-old Israeli national’s heavy drug use resulted in him suffering from feelings like he was a ninja or a superhero, and also as if was a puppet on ropes and someone was controlling him.
During the attack, Eshel slapped, punched and dragged the victim by the hair. He kept asking her for sex, in exchange for money and ketamine. Judge Liz Gaynor said when police found the victim, she was covered in bruises and despite being in pain, fear and trauma, she managed to film part of the attack.
She said Eshel donned a Japanese kimono before the attack and among some of the degrading treatment he meted out to the victim was to order her to drink his urine which she refused.
“Basically it can be said, as a result of your actions, intoxicated or not, the complainant went through a horrendous ordeal where she was essentially treated as a lowly-object whose only purpose was to provide you with some sort of sexual pleasure,’’ Judge Gaynor said.
“And an outlet for the sort of perverted way in which you regarded her at the time. The offending was protracted, it went on for a period of about eight hours.”
She managed to escape about 8pm after he told her to get into the shower.
Video footage viewed by police showed Eshel walking around naked, carrying a foot-long baton or torch, and being verbally abusive and threatening towards her.
Judge Gaynor said Eshel’s offending involved three incidents of sexual penetration, use of a baton and sex toys, physical dominance, degrading behaviour, and humiliating and prolonged violence.
Eshel must serve at least seven years and six months before he’ll be eligible for parole.
