A Melbourne labourer who faces an immediate jail term after he was nabbed with vile child abuse material featuring young boys has failed to front court for sentencing.

Magistrate Peter Reardon issued a warrant for Ashley Solly’s arrest after he was a no show at Thursday’s hearing.

Solly, 33, was warned at his last court appearance he faces an immediate jail term after pleading guilty to charges including possess child abuse material.

The Melbourne Magistrates’ Court heard Solly was caught with vile child pornography at his Wyndham Vale home on September 17 last year.

Police seized three phones which contained a combined 933 child abuse material images and videos including files which depicted sadism, bestiality or torture.

The vile material depicted naked images and videos of prepubescent naked boys some of which were performing lewd acts.

Police also discovered images which are too graphic to publish.

Solly, who now lives in Windsor, told police he was “addicted” to child porn.

The defence submitted, during October’s plea hearing, Solly’s drug use was connected to his lewd offending.

Solly, who said he watched child abuse material while high on meth and GHB, claimed he “relapsed” after not being able to see friends or workout during Melbourne lockdown.

“That’s what he says (about drug use and child abuse material) but he also says he has a fascination with the build and size and contrast of underage males and adult males,” Magistrate Reardon said at the plea hearing.

“He masturbated to the material so he has an attraction doesn’t he (a psychologist) has referred to that as … paedophilia … it’s been going for five years according to (the psych) report.”

The defence called for Solly to be spared a jail term submitting his early guilty plea was a sign of “remorse”.

“What else could he do? It’s on his phones, police have turned up with a warrant …,” Magistrate Reardon said.

“The examples (of child abuse material) read out by the prosecutor are very serious, involving children taken advantage of, most likely in third-world countries being sexually abused by adults in the most disgusting way …

“It seems to me it calls for denunciation of this kind of offending and would warrant a term of immediate imprisonment in relation to these matters …

“It’s far too serious offending, its lucky that’s its being heard in the magistrates’ court in my mind …

“The possession of this material is outrageous, this is not mild pornography this is the most serious kind.

“If he’s got an attraction to young children then he’s got an attraction … what’s a community correction order going to do.”

Magistrate Reardon indicated an immediate jail term with a non-parole period was on the cards but ordered Solly be assessed for a CCO as part of a combination sentence.

The court heard Solly moved to Melbourne in October 2016 after previously living and working in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.

Solly, who worked in Queensland as a careers adviser and an escort, works as a landscape and building labourer in Melbourne’s west.
