Sharon Hallett is one of only a handful of Australians who have trained directly under queen of clean, Marie Kondo. And now she’s running a masterclass and workshop to help Melburnians become tidy and organised.

Marie Kondo’s worldwide blow-up was no surprise to Sharon Hallett, who trained under the queen of clean last year, well before the Netflix show and ‘KonMari’ became an online sensation.

“Marie is adorable and exactly like you see on the show,” Ms Hallett said.

Ms Hallett, from Hawthorn, is one of only a handful of Australians who have learnt directly under Kondo and is now one exam away from becoming an official KonMari consultant.

During a downsizing move five years ago, Ms Hallett happened across Marie Kondo’s book and it struck a chord.

“The focus is quite different from other organisation methods. It aims to clarify your ideal life,” Ms Hallett said.

“Its gone gangbusters since the Netflix show I think because it’s simple, easy to follow and gets good results.”

Ms Hallett said being tidy and organised were life skills no-one gets taught.

“We are all so busy and live at a hectic pace so people are genuinely looking for help and support,” she said.

Books and sentimental items are the hardest things people have trouble letting go, which is why in the KonMari method they are left until last she said

Kondo’s catchphrase “spark joy” can sound corny Ms Hallett said, but the aim was to work out what you want to keep in your life and what you want to live around.

“The secret to maintaining it is to be clear about what you want to keep and why. Do you really enjoy it, is it purposeful? If its not then why are you keeping it?”

Ms Hallett has a professional organisation business, Hello Organised and will be running a masterclass and workshop at the Hawthorn Community House May 19.
