Yarra Boulevard Action Group convener Cameron Clark said daredevil drivers loved to test their skills on the road’s sweeping turns, but their need for speed was putting lives at risk.
Motorcyclists and petrol heads revving their engines were also keeping residents awake at night, he said, and he called for VicRoads and Victoria Police to take action by installing median strips, security cameras and a fixed speed camera.

Mr Clarke founded the Yarra Boulevard Action Group last year, and he said the group now had more than 50 members who collected crash data, with more than 40 accidents recorded along the boulevard since December.
“What we’re trying to do is get rid of hoon behaviour, which has been happening for ages,” Mr Clark said.
“That place is full of cyclists, so the potential to kill an innocent is huge.”
VicRoads metro southeast spokesman Sasha Yarwood said CCTV cameras were recently installed on Yarra Boulevard near the Eastern Freeway, and raised median markers would be installed at the bridge and Yarra St intersection.
Information provided by VicRoads noted four crashes had been recorded on the boulevard in the past year, one of which resulted in serious injury.
Victoria Police spokeswoman Sara-Jane Delaney said two mobile speed camera sites were being used by police as part of an ongoing operation in the area.
