They were about to abandon their round for some beers at the clubhouse. But some fine drives have helped this duo make history at a golf course in Melbourne’s east.

A Kew golfer has scored the perfect birthday gift — a hole in one — in Melbourne’s east, with his son’s mate following suit in a rare double.

Michael Adams and Fitzroy North’s Adam Faithfull have etched themselves into the Kew Golf Course record books after scoring back-to-back hole in ones on the 139m fourth hole on December 3.

Their feat, first reported on 3AW’s rumour file, is believed to be the first time two players in the one group have got a hole-in-one on the same hole in the course’s 127-year history.

The duo and Michael’s son Sam were close to abandoning their round for a few beers at the clubhouse, as the course was moving slow due to a corporate event.

But after the trio took their first shots on the fourth, they walked down a hill to find only Sam’s ball lying on the green.

They were shocked to find their two balls inside in the hole, while Sam had to settle for a bogey after he missed a few putts following the celebrations.

“We just went nuts … we were screaming, there were blokes around the course looking at us from other holes, we couldn’t believe it,” Mr Adams said.

“I’m not a high handicapper or anything like that, we’re just average golfers.”

Mr Faithfull, a 20-year-member at Kew, has pledged to stay at the club for life following his glorious shot.

“As soon as I struck it, I thought, ‘that’s in the hole’ … I had a pretty good feeling I hit it well,” he said.

“It was pure shock and disbelief … it was like a dream, I felt like I’d gone to heaven.”

Mr Adams landed his miracle shot on his 64th birthday and toasted his achievement at dinner at a Collingwood pub later that night.

But the trio plan to return to the 19th hole — aka the clubhouse — for their originally planned beers to celebrate their freakish feat soon.
