GLEN Eira College has been promised a $9.5m rebuild if Labor wins the November state election.
Principal Sheereen Kindler said the “dream” announcement would allow her 50-year-old learning spaces to be whipped up to 21st Century standard and has made education a key election issue in the electorate.
The non-zoned, three-storey school has more than 600 students and is growing by about 85 a year, while learning spaces remain largely unchanged.

Caulfield state Labor candidate Josh Burns described the college as a “jewel in Caulfield”.
“ (If elected) Labor will upgrade Glen Eira College to make sure our kids can get a first rate education in first rate facilities,’’ he said.
Ms Kindler wants to redevelop the arts and technology wing and the administration and staff areas, expand classrooms, create new learning spaces and build a new gymnasium.
“This school is growing and has become a school of choice,” she said.
“We’ve worked hard to improve the facilities but it’s the funding that’s been the issue. We’ve done small things to make the spaces better but we haven’t had funding to do it very well.”
State Opposition leader Daniel Andrews said that if elected, Labor would upgrade science, arts, food technology and sporting facilities at Glen Eira College.
“New, world-class facilities will replace outdated facilities – it’s what parents and teachers want,” he said.
In this year’s State Budget the Coalition Government allocated $7.8 million to Coatesville Primary School and $3.1 million to Valkstone Primary School, both in East Bentleigh.
