A dodgy Camberwell car trader forced to close his business over dishonest dealings says he’s remorseful for his actions and hopes others will learn from his mistakes.
Five Star Car Sales director Bo Li, 32, of Camberwell, was busted along with an employee for operating in an unfair manner between January 2014 and March 2018.
VCAT ruled his company sold cars without the necessary paperwork and failed to disclose required information in advertisements.
It also noted he employed a person who was disqualified from serving in a customer service role, and his company provided misleading information to Consumer Affairs staff when they began their investigations following a customer complaint.
Mr Li said his former employee, who was introduced to him by a mutual acquaintance, was the source of the dodgy dealings, but he ultimately took responsibility.
He urged other company directors to pay close attention to their books and make sure their staff adhered to all applicable rules and regulations within their industry.
“I didn’t pay attention to the business, I left everything to him,” Mr Li said.
“Sorry for what I caused, the problems (for customers). Sorry about that, and that’s it.”

WHY THESE NEIGHBOURS LOVE LIVING ON A DIRT ROAD
He said he believed his former employee had moved overseas, either to Malaysia or Indonesia, and he said he wouldn’t rule out opening another car dealership in the future.
The tribunal ruling notes Five Star Car Sales Pty Ltd was conducting business in a dishonest and unfair manner, and Mr Li was not a fit and proper person to be a director of a licensee.
Mr Li’s company licence was also cancelled and he was disqualified from holding a licence for two and a half years.
