A man wanted over an alleged attack on a man over a debt is close to be being arrested as police close in.
Stonnington detective Senior Sergeant Rick Macdonald said the three men allegedly assaulted a 24-year-old Carnegie man outside an East Malvern house on Thursday, August 27.
Sen-Sgt Macdonald said the man had visited the house to pay back a debt, believed to be under $500, when he was suddenly attacked by the three men.
He said the man was “held against his will” in the garage and was asked for more money.
The man claimed he didn’t have enough cash but knew of another person in Carnegie who could help him.
Sen-Sgt Macdonald said the three men took the man in a car to a Carnegie house where they attempted to force their way in using an axe at the front door.
They were unsuccessful and drove off without the Carnegie man, whose housemate called police.
Officers later tracked down and arrested two of the three alleged attackers, both 30 years old, at a house in East Malvern on Friday, August 28 at 3pm.
Sen-Sgt Macdonald said the two men were taken into custody for questioning and bailed on the condition they don’t contact the victim again,
He said the men could be charged and face court once further investigations were completed.
Sen-Sgt Macdonald said the third attacker, believed to be from East Malvern and aged 25, had been identified by police, who hoped to arrest him shortly.
He said the circumstances surrounding the Carnegie man’s debt was unknown and police were continuing investigations.
