A development which would have towered over Burke Rd in Camberwell was rejected by Boroondara Council.
The $27.245m proposal for the site of Le Pine Funerals Camberwell and the neighbouring Australian Health Service Alliance at 979-981 Burke Rd would have had an eight-storey building rising about 25m.
The building, proposed by Angle Victoria, was to have three underground carpark levels housing 143 spots, while on the street level there would be a 943sq m business and 273sq m cafe, as well as two apartments.
The other storeys would house the extra 38 two, three and four-bedroom apartments.
One of the main issues leading to the council’s rejection of the application was overshadowing, especially looming over the single-storey house at 164 Victoria St and its solar panels, as well as the backyards of 1 and 3 Langham Place.
