LATEST: Stonnington’s active coronavirus cases tally has dropped to single figures.
According to the latest DHHS data, the inner city municipality – which covers suburbs including South Yarra, Toorak and Prahran – had nine active cases as of Tuesday, September 8.
It dropped another case overnight after remaining on 10 active cases since Thursday, September 3.
Stonnington had the most overall confirmed cases of the deadly virus in Melbourne when the outbreak began in early March, through to mid-May.
The DHHS then switched the focus of its daily updates to municipalities with the most active cases, and bigger clusters in other LGAs emerged.
Nillumbik remains the frontrunner to become Melbourne’s first COVID-free LGA, with its total remaining at six active cases.
But other eastern municipalities are hot on its heels, with Knox making great progress in recent days and surging to second place with seven cases.
Other municipalities with 10 or less active cases include Whitehorse and Manningham (8), Yarra Ranges and Boroondara (9), and Maroondah (10).
Brimbank has overtaken nearby neighbour Wyndham in Melbourne’s west as the city’s coronavirus hotspot.
Its total increased by 11 overnight to 205 active cases, two ahead of Wyndham, which dropped one active case to 203.
The State Government has imposed Stage 4 restrictions in Stonnington and the rest of metropolitan Melbourne until at least September 28, with minor changes to be introduced on September 14.
Currently, there is a curfew between 8pm-5am, and residents are limited to one hour of outside exercise a day.
Only one member of each household is allowed to make one trip to the supermarket for essential items each day.
