The rate of contagion remains static in Boroondara. But the area is still among the state’s most highly afflicted areas to be hit by the deadly virus.

Boroondara still has one of the highest numbers of confirmed cases of the deadly coronavirus according to new State Government data.

There were 60 infections diagnosed across the municipality as of Tuesday night, with no changes since yesterday and only eight new cases across the state.

Boroondara still has the fifth-most number of infections across Victorian council areas.

Melbourne’s wealthy inner east has proven to be a hotspot for the coronavirus, with more cases detected in the city’s affluent inner suburbs than anywhere else in the state.

Stonnington tops the state with the most infections at 88 confirmed cases, while Banyule has 80, followed by Greater Geelong with 62, Melbourne with 61, the Mornington Peninsula has 55 and Casey has 51.

To better track the spread of the virus in the community, Victoria is again expanding the testing for coronavirus.

Testing will now be based only on its clinical symptoms, regardless of age or occupation.

The symptoms include any new fever, chills or breathing problems, specifically cough, sore throat or shortness of breath.

Only people in the general community with these symptoms will be eligible for testing.

The testing can be expanded because the number of people returning from overseas has significantly reduced and more labs have come online, with 40 screening clinics open across Melbourne and regional Victoria.

There are only four reasons for Victorians to leave their home: food and supplies, medical care and care giving, exercise, and work or education.

Police have strong powers to enforce directions and can issue on-the-spot fines, including up to $1652 for individuals and up to $9913 for businesses.

There have been 122 confirmed cases of the virus in Victoria that may have been acquired through community transmission. More than 71,000 tests have been conducted to date.
