An Glenferrie Rd icon is about to get a major facelift as a heavyweight property developer looks to move into the popular inner eastern shopping strip.
Eighteen months after nabbing the old Westpac building at 655 Glenferrie Rd, property development group McMullin Melbourne has begun work on its “highly anticipated” $50m office space.
The company will call the landmark corner of Glenferrie Rd home, relocating from its previous headquarters at Railway Parade in Camberwell.
A five-story office building will replace the previous Westpac building, “redefining the iconic address”.
McMullin managing director Ian McMullin said being at the heart of the Glenferrie Rd precinct was a huge draw factor for the company.
“Having spent plenty of time in and around the Glenferrie Road area, we immediately saw the potential for this location,” he said.
In proximity to all shopping, eateries and public transport services, Mr McMullin called the location “premium”.
“We were searching for new headquarters for our team with great access and amenities,” he said.
“655 Glenferrie Rd is a tremendously vibrant environment for our staff and future occupants, with everything in the immediate vicinity. The location is outstanding.”
McMullin Melbourne will occupy the top two floors of the “cutting edge” commercial office spaces, leaving the ground floor for retail space with levels one, two and three available for lease.
Appointed to lead the building design, renowned architectural studio Gray Puksand is looking to create a “showstopping architectural landmark”, setting the standard for surrounding office developments in Hawthorn to follow.
“We will put the McMullin stamp on the site by developing the building and being involved in every step of the journey,” Mr McMullin said.
“We are creating a genuinely premium office building, with attention to every detail. This building will represent our values perfectly and will stand the test of time.”
Construction is expected to be completed in mid-2025.
