A Numurkah father allegedly threatened to shoot a woman’s dog, sent her abusive text messages, made more than 70 phone calls and slashed her tyres during a prolonged period of abuse, a court has heard
Travis Power — who is on remand — appeared at the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday on charges including stalking and using a carriage service to harass.
In a court document read by prosecutor Jo Allen, the 46-year-old allegedly told the victim he was going to “slash the lot” and “shoot the dog” in April this year.
“Pig — I will be back in 20 just getting my gun — be there soon,” Power allegedly wrote in a text.
Power also allegedly made 71 phone calls to the woman, the majority of them unanswered.
He also text messages the woman saying “c--t stop ya game I’m coming”.
It’s alleged Power sent a total of 26 “harassing ” and “offensive” text messages.
The court was told Power had also been allegedly following the victim, and
allegedly sent a photo to the woman of her vehicle parked in Numurkah in April and made threats to slash the tyres.
“Today will be the worst day of your life,” Power allegedly told the woman
The court heard other alleged texts Power sent were “you’re dead”, “c--t”, “filthy s--t” and “heartless c--t”, causing the woman mental harm.
Power also allegedly created false bookings which could have “sabotaged” the woman’s business.
“C--t I’m over the game now, someone goes tonight,” he allegedly wrote in a text to the woman.
“Stop being a sly c--t.”
Power’s lawyer Megan McKenna told the court the passing of his father had affected him and he hasn’t been before a court since 2008.
Magistrate Alexandra Burt said she was sure Power had some feelings of “shame”.
“What really concerns me about this is threats being made with firearms,” Ms Burt said.
“If someone is experiencing a significant loss in life, there are support services available.
Prosecutor Allen told the court the alleged offending was “very serious”.
“My current view is he needs to serve some sort of sentence,” Ms Burt said.
She adjourned the matter to later this week for a plea hearing.
