A Shepparton man who has moved to Melbourne has fronted court on several charges including being a prohibited person possessing a firearm.
Adam Winmar faced Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on December 5, where he is also facing a charge of theft.
Mr Winmar, who now lives in Melbourne, appeared in court via video link.
The court heard that Mr Winmar intends to plead guilty to the two charges, which was confirmed by his lawyer Ashleigh Fitzgerald.
Ms Fitzgerald, from the Kurnai Legal Practice, requested that the hearing be moved to Melbourne, as well as be heard in the Koori Court.
Magistrate Anne Goldsborough noted that Mr Winmar lives in Melbourne, while also taking into account his intent to plea.
As a result, Ms Goldsborough accepted the defence request to have the hearing moved to the Koori Court.
However, Ms Goldsborough ruled proceedings would continue in the Shepparton Koori Court, rather than Melbourne.
Ms Goldsborough also said that “any proper decisions” would be made at the next hearing.
The court heard that Mr Winmar has plenty of connections in Shepparton.
Mr Winmar will face court again on Friday, December 8.
