A man has been allegedly using his backyard and a “grow tent” to cultivate 67 cannabis plants in Seymour.
Dimitrios Loukas was arrested on Monday morning after a search warrant conducted by police allegedly uncovered multiple drugs of dependence in traffickable quantities, the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court heard this week in a bail application.
The court was told the search found 5.5g of a white powder believed to be cocaine, 25g of a crystal substance believed to be methylamphetamine, and three bottles of what is believed to be GHB.
There were also 67 cannabis plants and two large tubs of dry cannabis.
Mr Loukas told police upon his arrest that the drugs were for his personal use and denied trafficking the drugs, the court heard.
When interviewed by officers he said two of the three bottles were GHB and the other was hand sanitiser, he had 15 to 20 cannabis plants and bought the cocaine and methylamphetamine from Melbourne.
Defence lawyer John McNamara said Mr Loukas used a 1g of methylamphetamine, 1g of cocaine and 12mL of GHB daily.
Magistrate Olivia Trumble said if Mr Loukas had, for example, 5g of methylamphetamine, she might have accepted he possessed it for personal use.
“25g is well above a traffickable amount,” she said as she denied bail.
Ms Trumble said the prosecution had a strong case for the trafficking charges and he would be facing a term of imprisonment on the matters if found guilty.
She said there was no evidence he had employment and he wanted to return to the premise where he was allegedly conducting cultivating activities.
She said the remand outreach program (CROP) — the only support available to Mr Loukas — was not enough to reduce any risk.
“He would need to go into a residential rehabilitation for an extremely significant and long standing drug addiction,” she said.
Mr Loukas was remanded in custody to appear at the Seymour Magistrates’ Court on April 10.
