There have been some big retail changes in the Goulburn Valley so far this year, with some much-needed openings and, sadly, some old favourites closing. Here’s a list of some of the big moves.
OPENINGS
BOOSEY CREEK CAFE, KATAMATITE
The cafe formerly known as Triple Bean is no longer as two friends opened up the Boosey Creek Cafe in Katamatite.
The new owners are Shane Cridland and Jamie Noonan, who also opened the pub next door...
BOOSEY CREEK TAVERN AND TIN SHED BISTRO, KATAMATITE
On March 9, 2024, the pub formerly known as the Boosey Creek Tavern reopened as the Boosey Creek Tavern and Tin Shed Bistro.
New owners Shane Cridland and Jamie Noonan also bought the Boosey Creek Cafe, which was formerly called Triple Bean Cafe.
Live music is a staple of the tavern’s appeal.
CHATTY CAFE, COBRAM
Chatty Cafe is a community house in Cobram that opened this year, offering people the chance to meet other locals and connect with their community.
Chatty House is at 43-45 Punt Rd.
A gold coin donation on entry is all that is required.
ECO CAFE, SHEPPARTON
Eco Cafe opened on April 16 and is run by Shepparton Access, a disability services and support organisation based in Shepparton.
The cafe is located on Wyndham St, with participants from the program serving tables and taking coffee orders.
EIGHTEEN SIXTY, NAGAMBIE
Eighteen Sixty is an Italian restaurant and wine bar located on Nagambie’s High St.
Bookings are encouraged but walk ins are also available.
The owners also look after Next Door, which claims to have Nagambie’s best coffee, and is aptly named being located next to the restaurant.
MOSAIC BRANDS, KIALLA
A mega outlet opened on April 20 in Kialla, headlined by the clothing line Rivers, which is operated by Mosaic Brands.
Rivers, Millers, Rockmans, Katies and Autograph are some of the other famous brands that will feature at the new outlet.
The outlet is located on the Goulburn Valley Highway.
SUBWAY, TATURA
Subway has extended its reach in the Goulburn Valley with a store in Tatura opening this year.
The store is located just off Hogan St, next to the IGA.
CLOSURES
GODFREYS, SHEPPARTON
Godfreys, a leading vacuum retailer, went into voluntary administration across Australia, meaning Shepparton lost its store on Benalla Rd.
WILDLIFE BREWING CO, SHEPPARTON
The Wildlife Brewing Co closed on February 10, 2024 after a five and a half year run on Williams Rd in Shepparton.
The crew had a big farewell party that featured live music and drinks.
