A Shepparton man who was busted selling drugs and storing guns under his bed will spend more time behind bars, a court has heard.

Nathan Evans, 50, was sentenced in Shepparton County Court on Wednesday for trafficking and possessing drugs and possessing firearms.

The former professional motorbike racer had pleaded guilty to the charges a week prior.

Judge Robyn Harper said drugs and guns were all too often seen together in court.

“You need to realise this behaviour will not be tolerated by the court or community,” she said.

“Drugs are a scourge on society.”

Last year police began an investigation into drug trafficking at a local caravan park before they searched Evans’ bus in April 2024.

Nathan Evans was sentenced on drug and firearm charges in Shepparton County Court on May 28.

They found more than 120g of methylamphetamine, two plastic bottles of oxandrolone and two vials of oxandrolone, as well as a shotgun and rifle under a bed.

The methylamphetamine was separated into a bag of about 55g and 40 bags with 2g each stored in an M&Ms container.

The court heard Evans wanted the guns for protection and was selling drugs for money and wanted some for personal use.

Judge Harper said she took into account that Evans had a rough upbringing and a lack of education opportunities.

The court heard Evans had been diagnosed with complex PTSD.

Judge Harper said Evans had reasonable prospects of rehabilitation if he did not use drugs once released and addressed his mental health.

She said by pleading guilty early Evans had demonstrated remorse for his actions.

Evans was sentenced to four years in prison with a non-parole period of two years and six months.

He has served 393 days of that sentence to date.
