A 56-year-old Maldon truck driver has died in hospital after a tragic collision on the Hume Freeway near Violet Town.

A 56-year-old Maldon man has died after a tragic collision between two trucks on the Hume Fwy near Violet Town.
The Maldon man died in hospital on Monday evening.
The other truck driver, a 56-year-old man from Parkes in NSW, remains in a critical condition in hospital.
Emergency services were called to the scene about 2pm before crews fought to remove one of the drivers from his cabin.
Both men were eventually flown to hospital.
It is understood one of the trucks may have been carrying explosives, but this has not been confirmed.
The collision took place on the southbound lanes of the Hume Fwy, near the Harry’s Creek ramp causing Melbourne-bound lanes to be shut for hours.
It is believed 12 emergency vehicles responded to the scene.
