A man who allegedly drove through a stop sign before colliding with Toyota HiLux ute at high speeds leading to the death of his four passengers has again faced court

Harinder Singh, 41, appeared at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday for a committal hearing after he was charged with dangerous driving causing the death of four men and failing to stop and give way at a stop sign on the Pine Lodge Rd near the intersection of Cosgrove-Lemnos near Shepparton on January 4.

The 41-year-old man from India is alleged to have driven his Peugeot sedan through an intersection at Pine Lodge and Cosgrove-Lemnos roads before striking the HiLux ute at high speeds.

The court heard the crash claimed the lives of Harpel Singh, Baljinder Singh, Krishen Singh and Bhupinder Sandu.

Singh was taken to hospital with only minor injuries, while the driver of the HiLux, a 29-year-old man from Nathalia, also received minor injuries.

Singh again pleaded not guilty to the charges as he previously had in January.

“I noted your plea today is not guilty and the matter is proceeded as a straight hand up brief,” Mr Gilligan said.

Mr Gilligan told Singh there would be one surety in the sum of $270,000 by the way of equity over a Kialla property be provided as a condition of bail.

Singh was ordered to remain on the court premises until the surety arrived, to enable bail to be granted.

He was directed for trial at the Melbourne County Court in August for a directions hearing, with the charge of fail to stop and give way at a stop sign transferred to the same date.
