While there might be a new coach at Shepparton United in 2022, there will be a familiar feeling at the club.
The Demons have appointed Paul Serra as the senior coach for next season after he spent two years as an assistant coach.
Serra has an impressive resume in the Goulburn Valley having previously coached rivals Tatura and junior interleague teams.
Meanwhile as a player, he played 180 senior games across the competition, representing the GVL as a player twice.
He was introduced into Tatura’s hall of fame in 2015.
The Demons were the best performed of the three Shepparton teams in a Covid interrupted 2021 season finishing ninth with four wins and seven losses from 11 games.
“We are so excited to see what our footballers can achieve under Paul’s leadership and we wish him all the best for 2022,” the club said in a post on social media.
Serra’s side had already started to take shape before his appointment earlier with the club having announced the signing of midfielder Mitch Booth from Western Region league powerhouse Deer Park.
Booth will bring plenty of experience to Deakin Reserve having played in two premierships with the Lions.
“I’m excited to join Shepp United in 2022 and achieve success with my new teammates,” Booth said.
The Demons have also announced the re-signings of Edward Adams and Kyle Clarke in the past week.
Seymour leads the way with key re-signings
After sitting at the top of the ladder for most of the season, Seymour has added more talent to its already impressive list.
Utility Riley Mason has aligned with the Lions for the 2022 season having recently signed a two-year deal with Coburg in the VFL.
“A smooth mover with elite foot skills is what you can expect to see from Riley next season,” a social media post said.
“Riley possesses a smart footy brain and accumulates the footy on game day.”
Fellow VFL players Ariek Lual and Bior Malual, who are aligned to Werribee, have also recommitted to the team from Kings Park.
Key pillars Kier Bol and Tim Dundon will also pull on Seymour colours in 2022.
Benalla have been busy with their own re-signings with Adam Walsh, Chris Welsh, Jake Pallpratt, James Davies and Jordan Wolff all having recommitted.
Tatura also recently announced Tom Miller had nominated the Bulldogs as his home club when he is not selected by Southport in the VFL.
