A Moama man who allegedly bludgeoned several people alongside his two co-accused before allegedly running another person over will face the County Court next month.
Guy Daniel Madin, 33, fronted the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court for a committal on April 11.
Mr Madin is facing charges of affray, intentionally causing injury, unlawful assault, recklessly causing injury, and a stack of dangerous driving charges after allegedly hitting another victim in his attempt to flee.
The court heard that one of the alleged victim’s has had 16 surgeries as a result of the injuries allegedly inflicted by Mr Madin, and his two co-accused, Arthur Edwards and Jarrod Mulcahy.
On February 4, 2022, Mr Madin, Mr Edwards and Mr Mulcahy attended an address at Olympic Ave, Shepparton.
There, the first victim was celebrating his 18th birthday with his friends.
Just after midnight, the trio sat outside the victim’s house.
The trio were drinking booze and smoking cigarettes, before the alleged victim walked outside his front gate and approached them.
Mr Mulcahy, allegedly armed with a machete, Mr Madin, allegedly armed with a baton, and Mr Edwards, who had a torch on him, allegedly assaulted him in the head, left leg and ribs.
The alleged victim then retreated back into his home.
The trio then allegedly assaulted a female victim, causing cuts to her hand and nose.
Moments later, they allegedly assaulted a man who had intervened, who began to drift in and out of consciousness.
The court heard that Mr Madin then got into a silver Holden Commodore, which was fitted with an interlock.
Photos obtained from the interlock camera show Mr Madin blowing into the interlock at 12.15am, about 10 minutes after the first alleged victim was allegedly assaulted.
Mr Madin drove the car out of the driveway, with a number of people diving out of the way.
Mr Madin then allegedly struck another victim, who went up into the windscreen before being dragged to the front of the property.
It is alleged Mr Madin did not stop the vehicle and the trio fled the scene.
Police attended the scene and one person was taken to Goulburn Valley Health before being transported to the The Alfred in a critical condition.
Another alleged victim was taken to Goulburn Valley Health, where his right knee may need to be amputated after suffering lacerations.
Major Crime Scene members attended the Olympic Ave address and found a green handled shovel with blood stains, a stick with blood stains, a wooden shovel with blood stains and a number plate.
Police found the car the next day in Wunghnu.
Mr Madin was arrested in Echuca on February 8, 2022.
The prosecution told Magistrate Peter Dunn that “when we made contact with him, he told us he was in Gippsland working, but he was located hiding in a cupboard in Echuca”.
Mr Madin, who was on remand, was granted bail by Mr Dunn, as his brother is facing a terminal illness and only has weeks to live.
The court also heard Mr Madin’s partner was about to give birth to their first child.
Mr Dunn said that Mr Madin had “compelling reasons for bail”.
Mr Madin will face a directions hearing in the Melbourne County Court on May 8.
