Kayne Pettifer is continuing to give Goulburn Valley League defenders nightmares, even at the age of 39.

The former Richmond forward was at his very best as Kyabram stormed to a massive 94-point win against the Shepparton Swans.

Pettifer booted eight majors to take his season tally to 11 from two games.

But not to be outdone, Kyle Mueller kicked another six majors as he did in the opening round of the season.

Bombers co-coach Brad Edwards described the duo as the “most dangerous combination in the league”.

“It’s a luxury to have them both in our side,” he said.

“They always provide us with a target and you just know that they’re going to make the most of their opportunities.

“We’ve also got guys including Brad Mangan and Reid Crowe at their feet which gives us more threats.”

Edwards said he was pleased to see a strong response after his side narrowly defeated Rochester in the opening round.

“We spoke about how pleased we were to win a game where we didn’t play our best,” he said.

“On Saturday, I thought we were quite strong for three out of four quarters which resulted in a good four points.”

The weekend’s results weren’t all just about Kyabram with Seymour continuing its impressive start to the season with a 41-point victory over premiership contenders Rochester.

Three goals from Kyle Winter-Irving helped the Lions to back-to-back wins.

Former Carlton player Andrew Walker marked his return to Echuca’s line-up with a two-goal display as the Murray Bombers overcame Benalla by 26 points.

Kane Morris, Riley Smith and Ruory Kirkby, who spent time on Hawthorn’s rookie list during the 2005 AFL season, also booted two.

Euroa was able to bank its second win of the season off the back of a stunning display from former NEAFL forward Tristan Davies who kicked six majors against Shepparton United.

Fitzroy Greenwool again impressed for United with four.

Mansfield, which many tipped to finish towards the footy of the ladder, was able to continue its impressive start to 2021 with a 33-point win over Tatura.

Ben Christopher, Patty Marks and Will Foster all feasted on opportunities inside 50 with three goals apiece.

Mooroopna and Shepparton played out a thriller to close out the round on Saturday night with the latter prevailing by one-point.

Anthony Andronaco (Shepparton) and Chris Nield (Mooroopna) kicked three goals for their respective sides.
