An Argentinian man allegedly behind a horror crash that killed a 67-year-old woman north of Shepparton has had his bail varied so he can get an Australian drivers’ licence.

An Argentinian man allegedly behind a horror crash that killed a 67-year-old woman north of Shepparton has had his bail varied so he can get an Australian drivers’ licence.
Ezequiel Gamarra, 31, appeared in the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court via video link after allegedly running over Katunga woman Cheryl Nye in Tallyaroopna on September 13, 2023.
Mr Gamarra faces charges of culpable driving causing death, driving dangerously causing death and driving a motor vehicle carelessly.
In a bail variation application, Mr Gamarra’s lawyer Natasha Poppen asked if he can be allowed to get behind the wheel so he could get his Australian drivers licence.
There was no opposition from the prosecution.
Mr Gamarra will also have his passport returned to him for the “sole purpose of verification” when applying for the licence, but he must return it within 10 business days.
Mr Gamarra is now living in Wellington in New South Wales, about 50km from Dubbo.
Magistrate Amina Bhai approved the bail variation on Thursday.
Mr Gamarra will return to the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on April 16 for a committal mention.
