Former Fremantle forward Josh Mellington is well regarded as a big goalkicker at local level.

But his 2021 figures are simply ridiculous.

On Saturday, Mellington made it another season where he reached triple figures but this time he did it in just nine games.

Not even the wildest believers would have thought the Violet Town forward would reach the tally at the weekend as he came into the game with 74 majors for the year.

He went nuts, kicking 27 goals as his side ran out a 212-point winner against Tallygaroopna.

Mellington now has 101 goals for the season as Violet Town sits sixth on the Kyabram District League ladder with a record of six wins and three losses.

Since footy’s return following the enforced break due to the pandemic, the 28-year-old has booted bags of nine, 17 and 27, totally 53 goals.

Throughout the season, he has reached double figures on five occasions.

Despite now having reached triple figures, Mellington was held to one goal against fellow finals contender Merrigum earlier in the season.

Mellington now looks well on track to beat the 130-goal effort he had for his previous club Echuca United in the Murray League two years ago.

The next best goalkicker in the competition is Merrigum’s Josh Smith with 39 goals.

Violet Town face a crunch clash against Stanhope in their next game.
