A concreter threatened to throw petrol and “light it up” at police and release his neighbour’s dogs onto them so they would lose their “nuts” when they arrived to stop him threatening his neighbour with a spear.

Daniel Shane Londirgan, 45, pleaded guilty to one count of threat to destroy property, three counts of threats to inflict serious injury, one count of threaten to assault emergency workers, one count of unlawful assault and two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon without exemption and approval at the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on Friday June 9.

The court heard the victim and her partner were having friends over at their house — next door to Londirgan’s home in Goulburn Valley — on February 11 this year.

Londirgan — annoyed by the barking from the victim’s dogs — told them to “shut up” and threatened to throw a 1.8m spear with a blade towards the victim and the dogs.

The 45-year-old also made threats he would “spear” the victim “through their throat” as well as threatening to stab the dogs with the spear.

Londirgan, armed with the spear and a hunting knife, then went over to the house.

Police officers asked Londirgan to drop the spear and hunting knife he had hidden in his pants but the concreter refused to leave and warned officers if they were to enter the property, he would release the dogs onto the officers and they would “lose their nuts”.

The court heard Londirgan then spat on the officers and threatened to throw petrol at them and “light it up”.

No one was hurt in the altercation.

Londirgan — who appeared at court over a web link wearing a black shirt, striped tie and glasses — said he behaved in the most “appalling” way.

“I have never behaved in this sort of matter in my life,” Londirgan told the court.

“I didn’t approach it in the way I should have.”

The court heard the 45-year-old was taken to Goulburn Valley Health the night of the offending for his “mental issues”.

Londirgan told the court he had been diagnosed with ADHD and had two major strokes and an aneurysm last year which “dramatically changed his life”.

Magistrate Victoria Campbell said her initial belief was Londirgan should be jailed.

“You thought you were a superhero — it’s appalling,” she said.

“And the police who attended and got spat at — they don’t go to work to be treated like that.”

Londirgan said he could not give Ms Campbell any excuses for his behaviour.

“I apologise to all the parties involved,” he said.

Londirgan will be assessed for a community corrections order at a later date.
