The success of Breanna Hexter’s salon could be measured by the time it takes to get an appointment, which can be months.
“The new client inquiries daily are overwhelming and amazing,” she said.
But now there’s more proof of her popularity, with her salon Hair By The Boulevard being crowned the best in the region by The Goulburn Valley News readers.
And if you told Ms Hexter she would be flat out when she started her business three years ago, she would not have believed you.
“I said to my husband Jayedon, either this will go amazing, or we’ll be eating two minute noodles,” she said.
But the 27-year-old is glad she took the leap, after working at a Shepparton salon for eight years and managing it for three.
She runs the salon out of her home where she also employs a part-time worker.
Ms Hexter said this arrangement has given her the ideal lifework balance.
“I love working from home,” she said.
“We now have my 14-month old son Cohen, so the flexibility is amazing and I’m always busy.”
Plus, she loves the relationships she has with her clients, some which she has been seeing her whole career.
“I do pride myself in regular clients,” she said.
“They know everything about me and I know everything about them.”
Ms Hexter said she could see herself growing the salon in the next five years and expanding into her garage so she could take on another employee.
For now, she’s enjoying what she has built, which she said was in part credited to her following on social media and her loving support from friends and family.
“They’ve backed me the whole way,” she said.
But mostly, it comes down to her passion for her job.
“I feel sorry for people who go to work everyday that’s just for money,” she said.
“My job is my hobby — I find it’s the one thing I’m confident and I am successful at.
“Being happy in what I do has made me get this far.
