An Alexandra man charged with murder will stand trial.

Clive Whyte faced an online committal hearing at Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday where he entered a not guilty plea.

The 62-year-old is accused of killing fellow Alexandra resident Martin Bebbington, also known as Marty, in an alleged violent altercation at a home in December last year.

Emergency services were called to a Bayley St address following reports of a fight about 1.40am on December 8.

On the day of the incident, Mr Whyte was arrested at the property and taken into custody.

When the news broke of Mr Bebbington’s death in the community, a series of tributes were posted online.

“R.I.P. my brother, you will always be remembered by us,” one person wrote.

While another said the alleged violence was a little too close to home.

“Shocking. Makes me feel sick to the stomach that my dad was in bed and not 50 metres away,” they wrote.

Alexandra is a regional town 130km north east of Melbourne.

The trial will start at the Melbourne Supreme Court on June 15.
