A country pub that regulars claim has the “cheapest booze in Goulburn Valley” is after a new owner.
The Royal Mail Hotel, known for its prominent corner location in Mooroopna, close to Shepparton, has recently hit the market.
It’s the first time the pub — which escaped the devastating 2022 floods basically unscathed — has been up for grabs in more than a decade.
With food, beverage, a bottle shop and various function rooms, the traditional pub is iconic and also has “real potential to further develop.”
. Owner Trevor Forsyth said he originally purchased the hotel with an initial “five-year plan” — but that turned out to last quite a lot longer.
Mr Forsyth, a diehard Richmond supporter, loves his regular clientele, and his family has a history of hotel ownership, making it a no-brainer to buy the pub 12 years ago.
The pub survived last year’s floods, with Mr Forsyth complimenting the strength of the building.
“Only the carpet was damaged, the walls held up really well.”
Under Mr Forsyth’s stewardship, the pub has focused on classic bistro food — parmas, chicken breasts and lambs fry and bacon headline the menu.
Locals love the Friday nights at the Royal Mail.
“We get a great crew on a Friday night” one patron noted.
Another regular also noted the great prices at the bar.
“It’s the cheapest booze in Goulburn Valley … Five dollars for a Jack Daniels and Coke.”
The asking price for the Royal Mail Hotel is $235,000.
