Glen Fisher revealed as the impressive Low Vision Travelling Busker

The identity of a popular Melbourne figure who belts out gospel songs from his mobility scooter in the city has long remained a mystery — until now.

Is this Victoria's best unknown singer?

Is this Victoria’s best unknown singer?

You may have seen — or heard — him around Melbourne’s Arts Centre or Flinders St station belting out Gospel tunes from his mobility scooter — but the identity behind this talented voice has for years remained a mystery.

Until now.

Seaford man Glen Fisher — who is partially blind — has become part of Melbourne folklore as the “low vision travelling busker” through his incredible ability to stop people dead in their busy tracks as they lose themselves in his powerful voice.

The songs Mr Fisher sings are his own, travelling an hour into the city most days to put smiles on faces.

With Christmas around the corner, Mr Fisher said he wanted to “do what (he) could” for people going through “really rough times”.

“I decided to go out on the street and write my own Gospel that the Lord put out on my heart,” he said.

He can also be found singing around the Frankston and Peninsula areas.

Not even being “thrown out of choirs” throughout his life for “not singing in tune” dampened his spirits to take his talents to the streets.

“I’ve been writing for a long, long time and written heaps of stuff but I don’t have the image,” he said.

“My faith in Christ is a big motivator for me but I do this not because I have to but because I want to, that’s how I operate.”

Mr Fisher said it was “special” to know that he put smiles on the faces of many.

“It makes a lot of people happy but it can make some people upset, which is why I’ve written some lighter gospel as well.”

Mr Fisher’s anthology of original music can be found on his website.
