A Melbourne mother has been remembered as an “incredible character” by her devastated loved ones after her heartbreaking death from ovarian cancer.
Geri Weedon, 46, died on November 26 after a three-year battle with the disease, leaving behind her husband George and daughters Annabelle, 10, and Charlie, 6.
Family friend Andy Branson described Ms Weedon, of South Melbourne, as an “intelligent and witty” person, who was an “amazing” role model for her daughters.
“She was a great mother and a very strong-willed and confident character,” he said.
“She adored her girls and they’re clearly going to miss her a lot. She was only in her mid-40s which is just far too young.
“The girls now face the heartbreaking reality of growing up without her now. You really want them to remember the happier times together because she’s been unwell for quite a bit of their recent memory.”
Mr Branson set up an online fundraiser to support the family last week which has since raised more than $33,000.
He said it will be “very difficult” for the family to go through its first Christmas without Ms Weedon.
Ms Graham was also a popular member of staff at NBN Australia.
In 2022 NBN employees rallied behind Ms Weedon, raising more than $15,000 for ovarian cancer research as part of the “Workout 4 Women” initiative.
Her 27 NBN colleagues who made up “Team Geri” were the largest team that year.
