One Victorian school has dominated the Premier’s VCE awards with its students picking up 16 awards.
Victoria’s best performing VCE students were recognised on Wednesday for their outstanding efforts and achievements during the challenging 2021 school year.
Despite the challenges of their Covid-affected final year, 298 students received 324 awards across 97 categories.
Private school students dominated, scooping up two-thirds of the awards, although a number of state school students received the most prestigious accolades.
High-achieving state students include those from the Victorian School of Languages (16 awards), Victorian College of the Arts (four awards) and Brunswick Secondary College (four awards).
Selective-entry state schools also ranked highly, with students from Melbourne High School receiving 12 awards, John Monash science School receiving four awards and Nossal High School four awards.
Out of the private schools, Methodist Ladies’ College received 11 awards, Scotch College received nine and Ballarat Clarendon nine.
Mount Waverley Secondary College’s Rachel Tan received the most awards out of every student, taking home awards for Top All-Round VCE High Achiever, English Language, Further Mathematics and Japanese Second Language.
Twenty-five students from across the state recieved a top all-round VCE high achiever award, which recognises students who achieved study scores of 46 or higher out of 50 in at least five VCE subjects.
More than 280 students received the best performers in individual VCE subjects awards, while three were recognised for being top three international students.
Education Minister Natalie Hutchins said the awarded students worked “incredibly hard” to achieve their results.
“These award winners are testament to how well Victorian students … adapted to the challenges of a global pandemic and still produced outstanding results,” she said.
