Police will prepare a report for the coroner following the death of a woman in an Echuca taxi.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident last month are being investigated by police and WorkSafe Victoria.

Leading Senior Constable Kendra Jackson said it was understood the 63-year-old woman, who was in a wheelchair and travelling in the back of a wheelchair-accessible taxi, got into difficulty and asked for help from the driver while on Ogilvie Ave just before 12.30pm on February 6.

“The driver immediately pulled over and rendered assistance,” Ms Jackson said.

“Sadly … the woman couldn’t be revived and died at the scene.”

A WorkSafe Victoria spokesperson said it was believed the woman died when her wheelchair tipped backwards as the taxi braked.
