Yellingbo man, 23, charged after alleged police car ram, narrowly missing officer

A Yellingbo man who allegedly narrowly missed running over a police officer before embarking on a dramatic car chase has been arrested.

A 23-year-old man allegedly narrowly missed running over a police officer in the early hours of Tuesday morning as he fled officers in a car chase through the eastern suburbs.

Police spotted the Yellingbo man allegedly suspiciously loitering in a Burwood East carpark at 2.30am on Tuesday.

He was sitting in the driver’s seat of a white van that was believed to be stolen.

When officers approached, the driver allegedly backed out of his car park at speed, narrowly avoiding one officer.

The man then allegedly reversed into the police car and fled the scene.

He was spotted allegedly driving the van in the wrong direction along the Burwood Hwy.

The police chased the man through Oakleigh and arrested him in Seaford.

He was charged with 28 offences including car theft, unlicensed driving and 10 counts of reckless conduct endangering life.

He appeared before the Ringwood Magistrates Court on Tuesday night.
