DONVALE

A 25-year-old Balwyn North man will front court on a range of traffic related charges after allegedly being spotted doing burnouts in Donvale’s Mullum Mullum Reserve on Sunday, May 27.

Police say nearby Nunawading Highway Patrol officers spotted a Holden Commodore being driven inappropriately near the northern entrance to the park about 1.30am.

They say the vehicle made its way out of the park and onto Reynolds Rd where the driver allegedly ran a red light at the intersection of Blackburn Rd before being clocked at 90kmh in a 70kmh zone.

The driver was intercepted and questioned at the scene, with the vehicle impounded for 30 days at the owner’s expense to the tune of $884.

Nunawading Highway Patrol Sergeant Tim Price said officers found the vehicle with mud and grass under the rear. “He’d also managed to dislodge the rear bumper so clearly there was not much he could say to deny his involvement,” he said.

The driver has been charged on summons for improper use of a motor vehicle, careless driving, driving in a dangerous manner, disobeying a red traffic signal and exceeding the speed limit.

The police brief will request restitution for repairs to the reserve on behalf of Manningham Council when the matter appears at court at a date to be advised.

TEMPLESTOWE

An early Saturday morning hurry saw a Lalor driver getting nowhere fast after police pulled him over in Reynolds Rd on May 26. The 25-year-old was stopped about 9.50am after being clocked at 114km/h in a 70km/h zone in Templestowe.

The infringement will cost him $674 six demerit points and a six-month licence suspension. Just 1km/h more on the clock would have seen an even heftier bill — and the car impounded.

Nunawading Highway Patrol Sergeant Tim Price said the behaviour was unacceptable.

“It just shows a complete lack of respect for other road users,” he said. “These aren’t simple driving mistakes. They’re serious errors in judgment that in a split second can have life-changing consequences for not only the driver but also other innocent road users.”

DONVALE

A 57-year-old Doncaster East woman faces a month without her licence after being caught speeding in Donvale on May 26. Police detected her Chrysler doing 92km/h in a 60km/h zone on Springvale Rd, Donvale about 1.55pm. The woman, who had a female passenger in the car, was fined $515, lost four demerit points and had her licence suspended for a month.
