Man to be charged with making false report over attempted carjacking

A man who claimed he was shot at in attempted carjacking outside a popular shopping centre in Vermont South this morning is expected to be charged with making a false report.

A man who claimed he was shot at in attempted carjacking is expected to be charged with making a false report.

The man told police a man approached his car at traffic lights at the corner of Burwood Highway and Hanover Rd — outside Vermont South Shopping Centre — about 10.50am, brandishing a gun and demanding he get out of his car.

The man went on to claim that when he refused to get out of his car the man fired a shot through the car’s side window before running away.

But police have revealed that “the incident has not occurred as reported”.

“Investigators have spoken extensively to the man involved who is expected to be charged with making a false report,” police said in a statement.
