Vermont crime: Cody Marsh faces court on theft, assault and cause injury charges

A Vermont man is alleged to have punched holes in walls and sliced a woman with an illegal knife.

A Vermont man accused of cutting a woman with a flick knife and punching holes in the wall has faced court.

Cody Marsh, 28, is on remand and facing charges including making threats to kill, threat to inflict serious injury, intentionally and recklessly cause injury, unlawfully assault with a weapon, property damage, deal with property suspected proceeds of crime, commit indictable offence on bail, theft, obtain property by deception, theft from motor vehicle and contravene bail.

At a Ringwood Magistrates’ Court mention the court heard Mr Marsh was aggressive when he turned up to a Vermont house demanding his belongings on May 8.

According to police summary Mr Marsh held a woman at the house down before a witness told the angry man to get off.

The summary alleges Mr Marsh told the other man, “keep running your mouth and I’ll kick the f**k out of you”, before punching a hole in the door.

Mr Marsh then is alleged to have used a flick knife to cut the woman’s neck, finger and lip.

A day later Mr Marsh is accused of following the woman and her friend back to the same Vermont house.

According to court documents the friend dialled 000 and police arrived and arrested Mr Marsh in the driveway.

Police allege they seized 22 packets of cigarettes, three packets of tobacco, four packets of cigarette filters, two M&M packets containing cigarettes and eight weapons including various knives when they searched Mr Marsh.

Mr Marsh is alleged to have told police he made the threat to the woman and admitted punching “a couple of holes” in the walls.

The court heard he told police he bought a heap of cigarettes, and had found the weapons in heard rubbish and forgot he had them.

Defence lawyer Royce Deckker said in a psychologists report, Mr Marsh had issues with mental health and a likely diagnosis of ADHD.

“He has good prospects of rehabilitation,” Mr Deckker said.

“He’s been in custody 79 days.”

Magistrate Michael Wighton said the psychiatric assessment confirmed Mr Marsh had ADHD and also a serious substance abuse disorder.

He appear back at the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on September 16.
